Foul play not suspected after body found on fire behind store in Pembroke Pines

Victim appears to be black male, police say

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Foul play is not suspected after a body was found Monday on fire behind a store in Pembroke Pines.

The body, which was found just before 7 a.m. behind a Michaels arts and crafts supplies store at 11300 Pines Blvd., was determined to be that of a black male, but authorities have not been able to identify him.

The cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office pending an autopsy report.

Based on evidence gathered so far in the investigation, detectives do not believe that the incident is criminal in nature.

According to police, a witness called 911 early Monday and said that they believed a mannequin was on fire behind the store.

"When the fire department arrived, they realized it wasn't a mannequin, that it was actually a human being who was deceased," Pembroke Pines police spokesman Al Xiques said.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and no additional information will be released at this time.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Pembroke Pines police.
