Man on scooter injured in Miami Beach hit-and-run

Victim taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man was injured Friday morning in a hit-and-run crash in Miami Beach.

Miami Beach police said it happened shortly before 7 a.m. at 14th Street and Michigan Avenue.

Police arrived and discovered that the man had been operating a scooter when he was struck by another vehicle. The vehicle continued driving north on Alton Road.

A nurse and a doctor who witnessed the crash rushed to help the victim after he was dragged for a block.

"The scooter got dragged down there. I saw this guy bleeding (and) breathing in his blood," Andrew Moniz, who is a nurse, said. "That doctor is a hero. We were both doing the same thing. He has blood all over his scrubs. That is a true definition of a doctor."

The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in stable but critical condition.

His identity was not immediately released.
