Police catch handcuffed woman who escaped west of Little Haiti

Woman managed to remove handcuffs, free herself from cops -- but not for long

MIAMI – City of Miami police officers handcuffed a woman, but she managed to run away from them before getting into the police car on Friday afternoon.

Police officers arrested the woman on a restraining order before she escaped, according Miami Police Department spokesman Rene Pimentel.

The chase was in an area between Miami's Brownsville and Little Haiti -- west of Interstate 95. Cora Thornton said she saw the woman drive up in a car that was later towed.

"Just flipped over the car and started running through the alley," Thornton said.

Janie Jackson said she saw police officers looking for her near Northwest 46th Street and 8th Avenue.

Officers eventually caught up to her and arrested her about 6:20 p.m.
