MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 24-year-old man barricaded himself inside his home Tuesday after his father confronted him about stealing from him, the father told Local 10 News reporter Ben Kennedy.
The incident was reported Tuesday afternoon in the area of Northwest 81st Street and Fifth Court.
"He is stealing my stuff. When I talk to him he said, 'OK, I am going to kill you today,'" Thony Saintil said.
Saintil said his son held him and his four other children hostage and threatened to kill them. The children range in age from 5 to 17.
Saintil called 911 and said his son let them all go after he heard the police sirens outside.
"I called police to help me," Saintil said. "I was scared. I didn't have a gun. I had nothing."
Kennedy said about a half dozen police officers were equipped with body armor outside the home and had their guns drawn as they urged the man to come outside.
The area was blocked off for more than an hour while police worked to negotiate with the suspect. He eventually surrendered and was taken away in handcuffs.
It's unclear what charges he will be facing.
