Gunman leaves empty-handed after manager has trouble opening register

MIAMI – Miami police are searching for an armed man who attempted to rob a Popeye's restaurant over the weekend at gunpoint.

The attempted robbery was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Popeye's at 5534 NW Seventh Ave.

Surveillance video shows the culprit approach the front of the restaurant window and ask a woman who was working behind the cash register to get her manager.

Police said the man pulled out a silver revolver and pointed it toward the manager, demanding that he put cash from the register inside an envelope that was thrown on the counter.

Police said the manager nervously tried to open the register, but was unable to.

The man then grabbed the envelope and ran north on Northwest Seventh Avenue.

No injuries were reported.
