MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 55-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash while riding his bicycle early Wednesday in southwest Miami-Dade County.
Miami-Dade police said Gary King was struck, possibly by an SUV, at about 1 a.m. near Southwest 102nd Avenue and Southwest 171st Street.
"They hit him right here and drug him to the corner," the victim's cousin, John King, said.
Police said Gary King was struck from behind and pronounced dead at the scene.
"These are the buttons for the undercarriage, so he was underneath the right tire of the car, and upper fender damage where the bike scratched it," John King said.
King is a certified automotive technician and hopes that the parts he found will help police track down the driver.
"The law says you are suppose to stay on the scene, right? But when you're wrong and you know your wrong, you won't stay on the scene," King said.
Loved ones said the victim was a father of two with strong ties to the Richmond Heights community.
"He's a well known person. Everybody know him," family friend George Morton said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
