Man gets away with cash during second robbery

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A masked armed robber targeted two couples in one night in Lauderdale Lakes, Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said.

According to Carter, the robber first approached a man, who was standing outside his car at a RaceTrac at 4697 N. State Road 7 at about 9:30 p.m. on July 28.

Carter said the robber demanded the victim's car keys, which were inside the car with his wife.

The victim said he did not have the keys, and ran away when the robber momentarily lowered his shotgun, Carter said.

The victim's wife, who was still inside the car, locked the doors and ducked for cover as the robber fired at the vehicle.

Carter said he then ran away. The victims were not injured.

A second couple was held up at gunpoint about 30 minutes later at a Bank of America ATM at 3661 W. Oakland Park Blvd.

Carter said a man was taking out cash while his wife waited in their car.

The victim was walking back to his car, when he was approached by a man in a possibly silver Toyota Corolla.

Carter said the vehicle pulled up next to the victim, and the driver, who was wearing a ski mask, pointed a shotgun at the victim and told him to hand over the money.

Carter said the victim complied and the robber drove north on Northwest 36th Terrace.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
