PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A garbage truck driver lost control of his vehicle Tuesday and crashed into a tree and shopping plaza sign in Pembroke Pines, authorities said.
The crash was reported Tuesday afternoon in the area of 172nd Avenue and Pines Boulevard.
Police said the driver lost control of his truck and crossed the median into opposite lanes of travel, striking several cars.
"When I turned around I saw the back of the truck just waddling around and the driver, I guess trying to get control over it, and at that point he was just gassing it," Juan Osorio, who witnessed the crash, said. "He was just accelerating, accelerating, and he was actually coming straight toward me."
All drivers involved in the crash escaped with minor injures, police said.
The tree and plaza sign were destroyed.
Witnesses said it was raining when the crash occurred.
It's unclear whether the garbage truck driver will be cited.
