The suspects are accused of selling crack cocaine in the South Middle River neighborhood from Northeast Fourth Avenue to Powerline Road and north of Sunrise Boulevard.

Police said there have been three homicides in the neighborhood over the past year.

They said they targeted the area after receiving countless complaints from residents who were fed up with the crime in their neighborhood.

"This is a response to the residents of South Middle River," Fort Lauderdale police Chief Frank Adderley said. "For over a year, we have been answering complaints of open drug sales and violence in the streets. We feel these individuals played a pivotal role in those crimes committed over the last year."

Additional arrests are expected to be made.
