Broward Sheriff Scott Israel to run for re-election in November

Israel to run against Republican Santiago Vazquez, Jr.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Broward Sheriff Scott Israel beat out three Democrats to move forward with his re-election bid.

He will be running against  Republican Santiago Vazquez, Jr., a former BSO sergeant, in November.

With all of the precincts reported, Israel finished with nearly 65 percent of the votes.

Israel beat out three of his rivals despite critics claiming he misused funding to create a political machine through community outreach programs and neglected the security of the county courthouse to pay for it.

Willie Jones, a former BSO sergeant, followed with about 18 percent and Jim Fondo, a former district chief for BSO, with 12 percent.
