Miami-Dade Officer Diana Castillo saves a life

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County police officer Diana Castillo was recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital on Friday after saving a colleague's life. 

She donated a kidney to Miami-Dade County police officer German Alech, who was suffering from kidney failure.

The transplant surgery was on Wednesday. 

"Officer Castillo is such an amazing woman," Yesenia Arcia wrote on Facebook.  

Alech and Castillo will be recovering for about eight weeks. 

"I'm so blessed to able to say my uncle will stick around the family and force for a bit longer," Arcia said. 

Their friend Elliott Scholes set up a GoFundMe account to help their families.
