Man sexually batters 60-year-old woman walking in Sunrise, police say

Detectives release sketch of attacker

SUNRISE, Fla. – A 60-year-old woman was attacked Monday while walking in a Sunrise neighborhood, authorities said.

The incident was reported about 6:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of Northwest 90th Terrace.

Police said the woman was walking in the area when she was confronted by a man wearing eyeglasses.

The man, who appeared to be between 30 and 40 years old, grabbed the victim from behind and put her in a choke hold, police said.

He then pulled the woman into the bushes and began to punch her in the face, according to detectives.

Police said the man sexually battered the woman as she struggled to get away.

Police said he left the area with the victim's cellphone.

The victim suffered an orbital fracture and facial injuries.

Detectives passed out flyers in the area Wednesday in hopes that someone recognized the man from a sketch.

"I'm pretty vigilant and I usually stay up on my balcony, but I didn't see that one," Tom Benoit, who lives in the area, said.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call Detective Shelly Marchese at 954-746-3624 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
