MIAMI – After Gov. Rick Scott asked Floridians living in eastern coastal areas to evacuate before an order is issued, Miami-Dade opened public shelters.
Miami-Dade County was under a tropical storm warning on Wednesday.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said those seeking shelter should bring their prescription medicines, identification and important documents such as insurance information, battery-operated radio or TV, first-aid kit, toiletries, flashlights, spare batteries blankets, or sleeping bags, pillows, baby items, changes of clothing and sturdy shoes.
Police will not allow alcohol or weapons at the shelters. For more information about the shelters and how to get to them, call 311.

Booker T. Washington Senior, 1200 NW 6 Ave., in Miami.
