Hialeah police officer helped onto stretcher, flown to hospital

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Hialeah police officer was injured Tuesday morning while driving his motorcycle on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County.

The incident occurred in the southbound lanes between 119th and 95th streets.

Sky 10 was above the scene as police and paramedics were tending to him.

Southbound traffic was shut down while rescuers helped place the officer on a stretcher.

A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter landed on I-95 to fly the officer to a hospital.

Hialeah police spokesman Sgt. Carl Zogby said the officer, who is also a father, was "banged up" and suffered road rash and some fractures.

He said the officer was stable.

The officer's identity was not immediately released, but Zogby said he has been with the Police Department for at least 10 years.
