Deputies said Summers was immediately punched in the face by a man when he opened his door and Hess grabbed a large knife and stabbed him repeatedly in the back and leg, demanding his cellphone.
Deputies said the suspects left with the phone and Summers was found by authorities bleeding profusely just outside his apartment.
Summers was taken to Broward Health North, where he was treated for a fractured nose, a collapsed lung, nine stab wounds to his back and one stab wound to his leg.
Summers also suffered a swollen right eye and numerous cuts to his face.
