Man wearing clown mask robs victim in Fort Lauderdale at gunpoint, police say

Robbery reported about 2 a.m. Monday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A thief wearing a clown mask to hide his identity robbed a man at gunpoint early Monday in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

The robbery was reported about 2 a.m. at the intersection of Northeast 14th Street and Fifth Terrace.

"I heard running coming up behind me, and he came up to me (and) pointed the gun, screaming at me to give him the money. It was horrible," the victim, who did not want to be identified, said.

Police said the robber ran off with the victim's money.

The victim said he felt safe walking to his neighborhood 7-Eleven to buy doughnuts and milk, but now he wants to warn residents in the area to beware and follow his lead by not fighting back.

"Look out for yourself (and) don't go walking by yourself at night," he said. "I was totally vulnerable and he took advantage of that. They are scumbags."

Anyone with information about the masked robber is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
