Woman wins $42 million from slot machine, casino claims malfunction

JAMAICA, N.Y. ā€“ You know the old saying; is it better to have won $42,949,672.76 and lose it, or to have never won it at all?

Or something like that.

A woman in New York is feeling a lot of things after she won almost $43 million at a casino slot machine, only to be told the machine had malfunctioned.

WABC reports Katrina Bookman hit the jackpot at the Resorts World Casino back in August.

Bookman was soon quickly cheered on by customers and casino personnel.

However, when she returned the next day to find out what she had won, a casino representative told she had won nothing.

Well, not exactly nothing. The report claims the casino did offer Bookman a steak dinner.

The New York State Gaming Commission said the machine Bookman played had malfunctioned and that all winnings are voided in that case."They win and the house doesn't want to pay out. To me that's unfair," Alan Ripka, Bookman's attorney told WABC.

"The machine takes your money when you lose. It ought to pay it when you win," Ā AlanĀ Ripka, Bookman's attorney toldĀ WABC.
