Bicyclist killed in Pompano Beach hit-and-run crash

Detectives: Driver left cyclist to die on the road

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Police were looking for the driver who struck and killed a bicyclist on Saturday morning in Pompano Beach, according to Broward Sheriffs' Office deputies.

The driver of a silver or white Dodge Avenger hit a man who was riding his bicycle westbound on Southwest Third Street. He was crossing the Interstate 95 overpass when the driver hit him from behind.

Detectives believe the driver stopped in the center lane, next to the body of the cyclist, but chose to flee the scene. Detectives are trying to find the victim's family -- who lives outside of the U.S.

BSO deputies are also looking for a Dodge Avenger with damage to the front bumper and front windshield.

Detective Anthony Morales was asking anyone with information to call him at 954-321-4840 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
