PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man used a 4-inch kitchen knife to stab his parents after an argument on Thanksgiving, according to Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputies.

Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Andrew Gant said Edwin Daugherty's parents, Thomas and Patsy Daugherty,  were in critical condition, after their son stabbed them in the kitchen of their home in Port Orange, Fla.

Witnesses who told police they were sitting at the dining table said Daugherty first put his 72-year-old mom in a headlock, and when his 76-year-old dad tried to free her, he pushed him.

Daugherty then allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife, and stabbed his father in the chest several times. When his mom tried to intervene, witnesses said, Daugherty stabbed her too.

Deputies found him after he ran out of the house with the knife, which a deputy found hidden in a bush near the house.

Rescue took Daugherty's parents to Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach.

Daugherty, who has criminal record, was in Volusia County Jail Friday being held without bond. He faced two counts of attempted murder.
