Fugitives mistakenly hop fence into police parking lot

2 fugitives ran right into the Boca Raton Police Department

MIAMI – When two fugitives jumped over a fence, they thought they were getting away from police officers. Instead, they jumped right into the Boca Raton Police Department's parking lot.

Officer Sandra Boonenberg said she and others listening to the police radio knew the suspects were running towards the station -- and they were ready to surprise them.

The pair was accused of burglarizing a home on Wednesday. A woman who was with them turned herself in. The three faced charges of burglary and grand theft.

Police Chief Dan Alexander released the surveillance video on Thursday to show their mishap.

Yesterday, an alert citizen, great teamwork and some wrong turns resulted in some good burglary arrests. A resident noticed someone burglarizing his neighbor’s home and called us immediately, with a description of the suspects and the car they were driving. When the suspects noticed officers converging on them, they tried to flee and ultimately crashed in the area of Dixie Highway and Palmetto Park Road. The female suspect was caught close by and the males ran in a northwest direction. Fortunately, the male suspects turned themselves in, sort of. Their chosen course took them to Police Headquarters. The video included here shows our parking lot. The suspects have been charged with Burglary and Grand Theft. Thanks to the resident and all of the employees involved in this case.
