According to a probable cause affidavit, Ray struck the woman three times, including once in the head, with a two-by-four piece of wood because she refused to give him back the cigarettes that he bought for her.

The woman said Ray was angry because she told him that she didn't want to be friends with him or be around him anymore because he was "selling drugs on a regular basis," the report said.

A deputy observed significant swelling to the woman's left triceps, scrapes to her left forearm and bruising to her head, the report said.

Ray later admitted to hitting her with the piece of wood "because she would not give him the cigarettes," the report said.
