DAVIE, Fla. – Bergeron Park is a place Whitney Sich usually feels safe playing with her nearly 2-year-old son Asher-- but Monday afternoon that changed.
Sich said thieves targeted her in the Davie parking lot.
"My purse is gone and my phone is gone," she said, describing the items taken from her car.
Sich said she noticed an older woman with a little girl watching her and Asher as they played.
Then, when Sich was getting Asher into his car seat, the woman appeared to be on the phone.
Sich said she opened her car window to keep from locking herself out as she put her son in the back seat and threw out some trash.
At the same time, a white Lincoln Navigator pulled up on her drivers side.
"I went back to my car, the Navigator pulled away, the woman on her phone left and I couldn't find my phone," Sich said.
Sich posted a warning about what happened on her online group, SoFlo Moms, and said the thieves charged $500 to her card at a Kids Foot Locker in the Westfield Broward mall.
Davie police told Local 10 News that they always warn the public to lock their doors and close windows, especially during the holidays.
Sich hopes her story serves as a warning.
