GRASSY KEY, Fla. – Nine Cuban migrants came ashore early Tuesday on Grassy Key, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the migrants' makeshift boat came ashore at 2:20 a.m. behind the Rainbow Bend resort, near mile marker 57.6 on U.S. 1.

She said the migrants were in good shape when deputies arrived and they were turned over to Customs and Border Protection agents.

The men told deputies that they left Cuba on Christmas Eve.
