Music video takes dangerous turn; rappers mistaken for armed robbers
LAKE JACKSON, Texas – A music video ended with officers pointing guns at local rappers after mistaking them for robbers.
The incident was reported about 1:45 p.m. in Lake Jackson, Texas.
Police responded to reports from onlookers about four men dressed in black attire and holding huge guns.
A local rap singer, Tru and his crew, a group that sings about trying to go out and get it -- almost got it -- big time from the police on New Year’s Day.
“It was a bad idea with a good reason,” Tru said.
Tru and his musical partner Yung Groovey decided to shoot a rap video at a Lake Jackson credit union. They dressed as bank robbers, wearing black face masks, and carrying four real guns, which were unloaded.
That's when Lake Jackson police arrived.
Police guns were drawn because they thought it was a real bank robbery on their hands.
“They came back and said, ‘Get on the ground, get the (expletive) on the ground.’”
In the end, the rappers were questioned and explained what they were doing
No charges were filed against them.
For that, the rappers said they are eternally grateful to the police.
