According to a police report, Laurencin's son was at a day care in Plantation when staff members noticed "numerous marks, bruises and scars" on the boy's body. They called paramedics, who took the boy to Plantation General Hospital.

Officer Luis Fernandez contacted Laurencin and asked him to provide a statement. Fernandez said Laurencin admitted to administering corporal punishment and whipping the boy three to four times on the buttocks with the boy's belt.

According to the report, Laurencin said he did it because the boy "urinated inside a vehicle."

Police said Laurencin was shown photographs of the boy's injuries and acknowledged that they came from the belt strikes.
