Third person accused of attacking Cuban man over nationality turns himself in

Victim airlifted to hospital with injuries to face, head

MARATHON, Fla. – A third suspect accused of attacking a Cuban man last week during an argument about their nationalities turned himself in to authorities on Sunday, authorities said.

Ottoniel Garcia, 20, was booked into jail on an aggravated battery charge.

The other suspects, who are believed to be his cousins, Luis Garcia-Barrera, 24, and Carlitos Garcia, 21, tuned themselves in on Friday.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the trio beat the victim, Yandy Carrillo, 30, Jan. 22 on 65th Street Oceanside in Marathon.

Authorities said the suspects are from Guatemala and the victim is from Cuba.

Carrillo was airlifted to a Miami hospital with serious injuries to his face and head. He is now recovering at home.
