5 detained in Miramar hotel incident

Police swarm Hampton Inn & Suites with guns drawn

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Several people were detained Thursday after a scare at a Miramar hotel.

A view from Sky 10 showed police positioned with their guns drawn outside the Hampton Inn & Suites on Marks Way near Florida's Turnpike.

Heavily armed police swarmed the hotel and handcuffed five people.

At least one of the suspects came out of the bushes with his or her hands in the air.

Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said that hotel staff called police after five people came into the hotel asking for a key to a specific guest's room. When their request was denied, the individuals went upstairs and started banging on hotel room doors.

A witness said that at least one of the people had a mask and a gun.

Rues said a BB gun was also recovered during the incident.

Two people inside the hotel room in question were being interviewed by police.

No injuries were reported.
