Car crashes, catches fire in Miami Beach

Driver of Ford Mustang leaves scene

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A car crashed and caught fire early Tuesday morning in Miami Beach.

The crash happened about 4:30 a.m. near 29th Street and Collins Avenue in front of the Hilton Garden Inn.

Miami Beach police said the Ford Mustang struck another vehicle parked on the side of the street and burst into flames.

Josh Silverman told Local 10 News reporter Neki Mohan that he was in his hotel room when he heard the crash.

"I heard a bang so I came outside. That car was on fire, my car was on the sidewalk. Basically from what I'm told, they nicked another car, hit the back of my car while it was parked (and) pushed it into the hotel," Silverman said. "They spun out, knocked out the glass on that window, car caught on fire. Three black men went running that way."

Police said the driver of the Mustang fled the scene.

The Mustang was a rental vehicle and authorities are still working to identify the driver.

No injuries were reported.
