Monroe County deputies ask public to beware of 2 men in blue truck

Parents, instruct teens to never get in stranger's car, deputies say

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Two girls, ages 14 and 16, told Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies that when they were waiting for a bus on Cudjoe Key, two men tried to kidnap them.

The men were in a blue truck with a New York license plate, when they asked the girls if they needed a ride on Friday. When the girls declined, one was persistent.

"No, we can take you! Just get in the truck," a man said, according to the girls.

One of the girl's moms returned to try to give her daughter a water bottle that she had left behind. She spotted the men and started to yell at them. The men drove away.

Deputies asked parents to remind their teenage girls about "the importance of not talking to strangers" and to instruct them that "under no circumstances should children ever get into a vehicle with a stranger."

Deputies were asking anyone in the Florida Keys who spots a blue truck with a New York license plate to contact law enforcement in Monroe County at 305-289-2351.
