No threat after suspicious activity reported near Miami Beach City Hall

Roads reopened after bomb squad survey found no threat

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Suspicious activity near Miami Beach City Hall forced roads to be closed for more than an hour Friday afternoon.

The bomb squad was called out after a suspicious person was spotted by a security guard under a public official's SUV.

When confronted by the guard, the unidentified man fled the scene.

The Miami Herald reports the vehicle is owned by Miami Beach Commissioner John Alemán.

The areas on 17th Street between Meridian Avenue and Convention Center Drive were closed off before being allowed to reopen about 2 p.m.

Miami Beach police said no threat was found by the bomb squad.
