Boats housed at rural storage site destroyed in southwest Miami-Dade

No injuries reported

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A pile of boats burned in a fire Wednesday afternoon in a rural area of southwest Miami-Dade County.

The fire was burning several boats at the storage site near Southwest 160th Avenue and Southwest 172nd Street.

Sky 10 was flying above as the boats burned and thick, black smoke filled the air.

Firefighters extinguished the flames.

"We had difficulty with water access here," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Eric Gonzalez said. "There's no hydrants and the wells were hard to access, so we had difficulty with that. With the help of (the) Department of Forestry, we were able to bring it under control in about two-and-a-half hours."

About 5 acres were burned.

The boats were destroyed.

No injuries were reported.
