'I just don't wish that on my worst enemy,' says Miami-Dade teen shot in stomach

Police still looking for person or people responsible

MIAMI – A bullet entered the stomach of a 15-year-old girl and exited through her back, the girl said Friday as she recalled a shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade County.

Police are still looking for the person or people responsible for Thursday night’s gunfire.

"I just don't wish that on my worst enemy," said Lawrencia Barrett, in an exclusive interview from her hospital bed, as she described what happened when she and two teenage friends were shot near her apartment complex on Northwest 50th Street on Thursday evening.

“We was just standing outside," Lawrencia said. "The next thing you know, you heard one shot, then one shot, then that first shot hit me. That's the one that hit me right in the stomach and then you just heard multiple shots, like, 13 of them. They were just ringing. I'm looking around (and) I don't see nobody. So I got back up and I just ran home. I wasn't (going to) stay on that ground and die."

Lawrencia somehow mustered up the energy to go home and get help.

"When I first got shot, I didn't have no strength at all," Lawrencia said. "I just fell. I'm looking around, trying to get help, but I see nobody, so I'm like, ‘You gotta got to get yourself up'."

She described arriving home.

"I ran to the back door," Lawrencia said. "I'm banging on the back door, like, 'Help me! Help me! Help me! I just got shot. I just got shot.'"

She wasn’t the only victim. Police said 14-year-old Jason Gardner was shot in the leg and 18-year-old Alexander Stallings was hit in the hand.

Detectives said an argument sparked the shooting.

"If y'all know something, y'all better go talk, because I ain't talking," Lawrencia said.
