Teen, bystander shot near apartment complex in northwest Miami-Dade

55-year-old man drives to hospital with gunshot wounds to forearm, buttocks

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 16-year-old is in critical condition after a shooting Thursday night in northwest Miami-Dade County.

According to Miami-Dade police, Zackery Dixon was shot just before 10:30 p.m. at an apartment complex at 4725 NW 24th Ave.

Authorities said he went running through the neighborhood for help after the shooting.

A neighbor said she tried covering Dixon's wounds and called 911.

Police said Dixon had gunshot wounds to his groin, hands and legs. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

A second victim drove himself to the hospital. Police said Brian Zachary, 55, was walking to a friend’s apartment when the shots were fired. He told officers that he saw two men running from the scene.

Zachary drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his forearm and buttocks.

"I'm traumatized.  I can't stop shaking, it's unbelievable," Zachary's fiancee, Tonya Burns, said. "I just wish you guys would stop shooting guns and find something more productive to do with your lives."

A woman who lives in the area told Local 10 News that she heard too many gunshots to count.

"It's terrible over here," Sabrena Jones said.

Jones said one of the bullets went through the bumper of her pickup truck.

Police are searching for the shooters.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
