TAVERNIER, Fla. – A New York man died Wednesday while snorkeling in the Florida Keys.

John Kollar, 70, of Garden City, New York, was snorkeling in the upper Keys when crewmembers on the Reef Roamer noticed he was face down in the water and unresponsive, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Crewmembers pulled Kollar onto the boat and noticed that he wasn't breathing, so they performed CPR as they returned to shore.

Kollar was taken by ambulance to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
