Big Lots evacuated after tar pot catches fire on roof of building

Patrons, employees safely escape business

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Big Lots store in northwest Miami-Dade County was evacuated Monday morning after a tar pot caught fire on the roof of an adjacent vacant business.

The fire started at 11:40 a.m. on the roof of a building that houses a Big Lots near Northwest 167th Street and Northwest 57th Avenue.

All patrons and employees safely got out of the store, as did the workers on the roof, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said.

The fire was quickly extinguished and everyone was allowed back into Big Lots.
