Trauma survivors gather at hospital to thank professionals who saved their lives

'I thank the Lord for another day among the living,' attorney says

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Attorney Larry Harshman joined other trauma survivors at Kendall Regional Medical Center Wednesday to thank the professionals that saved his life.

Harshman was shot five times last November by a former client at his law office.

"Without this trauma team, I wouldn't be here," Harshman said. "Without the incredibly fast response from the first responders, I wouldn't be here today. And without my lovely wife, I wouldn't be here today, either. Thank you."

His wife echoed those sentiments.

"You guys not only saved my husband's life, but two lives: mine," Lenora Harshman said.

Police said Harshman's client, Fadel Jabado, who was distraught over his pending divorce, shot and killed his wife and adult son in their southwest Miami-Dade home.

They said he then drove to Harshman's Kendall office and opened fire.

Among those at Wednesday's event was former high school principal Javier Perez, who lost his legs after an accused drunken driver ran him over in a park.

"For me, my wife and my kids, Kendall Regional will always have a place in our hearts," he said.

The survivors received medals for their courage, but said they were incredibly grateful for the heroes who helped them survive.

"I thank the Lord for another day among the living," Harshman said.
