Miami man arrested after hosting illegal marijuana party, police say

Leandro Arriaga faces several charges stemming from unpermitted event

MIAMI – A Miami man was arrested Sunday after he hosted an illegal event promoting the legalization of marijuana, police said.

Leandro Arriaga, 32, was arrested on several charges, including doing business without a license, trafficking in cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a Miami police report, officers were called to 520 W. Flagler St. after receiving reports of illegally parked vehicles.

When officers arrived, they spoke with Arriaga, who identified himself as the event coordinator.

Arriaga told police that the event was promoting the Amendment 2 push for marijuana legalization and was open to the public, the report said.

Police said Arriaga failed to provide any documentation or proof of a permit to host an event in the city.

When officers entered the building, they smelled marijuana and could see loose marijuana on several tables, the report said.

Several patrons ran outside the back door as police entered, the report said.

Police said more than 50 pounds of THC contraband was seized. THC is the main psychoactive component in marijuana.
