NORTH BAY VILLAGE, Fla. – A North Bay Village commissioner and his wife have received "politically charged threats" to ruin their careers and marriage, the North Bay Village Police Department said Monday in a news release.

According to the news release, city attorney Robert Switkes told police that he considered the threats against Commissioner Douglas Hornsby and his wife to be "blackmail, extortion, coercion" and to be "egregious acts of public corruption."

Switkes also notified the FBI about the threats.

North Bay Village Police Chief Carlos Noriega said the preliminary investigation has produced "significant and valuable information."

Outside law enforcement, public corruption entities have been contacted for assistance in the investigation.

Authorities said no other details would be released about the threats against Dr. Hornsby and his wife until the investigation is closed.
