MIAMI – A violent fire caught on camera left a South Florida family homeless Saturday night in northeast Miami.
Firefighters said extinguishing the fire proved difficult. They don't know the exact cause of the fire, but family members told Local 10 News that shortly before the fire started, one of the kids in the home was playing with matches.
A man in a wheelchair, his wife and grandchildren made it out alive, along with the family dog, Boney.
Fred Pierre said he was inside the home when his grandkids started yelling there was a fire. He said one of his grandchildren was playing with something he shouldn't have.
"He was playing with matches," Pierre said.
Firefighters said the home is badly damaged.
The Red Cross helped the family find a place to stay Saturday night. Firefighters said it will be a while before the family is able to return to their home.
