PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Three teenagers were shot Sunday while leaving a pool party in a Pembroke Pines apartment complex, police said.
The shooting was reported shortly before 6 p.m. at the Arium Resort apartment complex on Pembroke Road.
It was just a lineage of just shots," Cary Tabares, who lives in the area, said.
Pembroke Pines police Sgt. Darryl Curtiss said four teenagers were leaving a pool party at the complex when someone inside a white, four-door sedan that pulled up opened fire.
"We saw some people trying to go over our fence here because there's a fence that divides these two communities," Tabares said.
"They grabbed the ladder and they were using the ladder to get over on this side, just as, I guess, an escape," another neighbor, Michael Kliger, said.
Curtiss said Carlos Smith, 19, was shot in the leg, Deondrey Oakley, 19, was shot in the neck and Robert Mitchell, 19, was shot in the abdomen. A fourth teenager, John Lowe, 18, wasn't wounded.
The three victims were shot on the sidewalk. They were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Authorities said two teens are listed in serious condition and one is in critical condition.
A Broward Sheriff's Office helicopter assisted police in searching for the shooter or shooters, who got away.
Detectives are investigating the shooting.
"We're just hoping that this is the end of it and we're hoping that they catch whoever it is," Tabares said.
Police believe the shooter was in a white Chevrolet Cobalt, Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord.
A witness tried to chase the vehicle but eventually lost sight of it.
