Karate instructor accused of kissing girl bonds out of jail

Jonathan Vega, 22, told 12-year-old to keep quiet after incident, police say

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A South Florida karate instructor who is accused of kissing his 12-year-old student bonded out of jail on Thursday.

Jonathan Vega refused to speak to Local 10 News as he left the jail.

"Did you kiss that 12-year-old girl?" Local 10 News reporter Ian Margol asked. "You have nothing to say at all?"

"Don't worry about it," Vega said.

The 22-year-old is accused of kissing the girl on the lips and then telling her to keep quiet.

Police said the incident happened in January at Premier Martial Arts in Pembroke Pines.

"I have to protect the safety of our students and, you know, he can't work here," business owner Jeff Asesor said.

Police said Vega had another inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old when he was 18.

According to an arrest report, Vega admitted that he feels he might not have the strength to resist another child, pointing out that he is attracted to other children and doesn't trust himself around children.

A Broward County judge agreed with him and ordered Vega to not have contact with the victim or any other children.

Vega was released from jail after posting a $50,000 bond.
