Police seek possible witness in fatal crash in Davie

White BMW slides sideways, rolls over into ditch, police say

DAVIE, Fla. – Davie police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who possibly witnessed a fatal single-vehicle crash that was reported over the weekend.

The crash was reported at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday in the area of 11100 Griffin Road.

Police said a white BMW was heading east on Griffin Road at a very high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Police said the car slid sideways, entered a ditch and rolled over several times.

One of the passengers was ejected from the car and struck a tree, authorities said. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver and another passenger were taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

A witness took a short video of a motorcycle that they told police was also driving erratically on Griffin Road just before the crash.

The video shows the motorcyclist spinning his tires at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Griffin Road before the light turned green.

The BMW is seen in the distance turning east onto Griffin Road as the motorcycle proceeds through the intersection.

Police believe the motorcyclist might have witnessed the crash.

"We believe that the motorcycle was not directly involved in the crash," Davie police spokesman Mark Leone said. "We believe that the BMW lost control, left the roadway. We do believe that he (the motorcyclist) may have seen something."

Anyone with information about his identity is asked to call Davie police at 954-693-8200 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
