1 person dead, 1 hospitalized after Pembroke Pines crash, police say

Police: Vehicle drives onto median, strikes tree

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – One person is dead and another person was hurt after a vehicle drove onto a median and struck a tree Saturday afternoon, Pembroke Pines Police Department said.

The crash happened around 3:48 p.m. in the 9400 block of Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed Anthony Augustin, 23, was driving a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis east on Pines Boulevard in the left lane and was approaching the 9400 block. Kourtney Rolle, 22, was riding in the right front passenger seat.

For an unknown reason, the vehicle veered to the left, mounted the median and struck a tree. Police said neither occupant of the vehicle was restrained by a safety belt.

Augustine died at the scene, police said. Rolle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital.

Members of the Pembroke Pines Police and Fire-Rescue Departments responded to the scene. Police said this is an ongoing investigation and no charges have been filed.
