MIAMIA crash involving two vehicles, including a Miami Police Department cruiser, shut down the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest Seventh Street for most of Sunday evening, police said.

Miami police Officer Christopher Bess said a sergeant was traveling to assist another officer with a traffic stop when the cruiser and a black Cadillac collided shortly after 6 p.m.

The sergeant and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Bess said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Their identities were not immediately released.

"At this time it is unknown as to what exactly occurred or who caused the crash," Bess said.

Detectives were investigating the cause.
