CUDJOE KEY, Fla. – A woman was airlifted to a Miami hospital and her boyfriend went to jail after a domestic dispute Saturday night on Cudjoe Key, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Anthony Velez, 36, and Anelle Hernandez, 32, got into an argument at Hernandez's parents' home where they live, Hernandez's mother told deputies.

Hernandez's mother called 911 to report that the two were arguing and pushing each other. She said she tried to break up the fight but couldn't. She called back a few minutes later to say that her daughter was bleeding from her head.

When a deputy arrived at the home, she followed Hernandez's father to a bedroom, where she walked in and heard Velez say, "She pushed me. I pushed her back."

The deputy saw Hernandez on the floor, unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. The deputy said Velez was kneeling over Hernandez.

Velez was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated battery.

Hernandez was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where she was listed in stable condition.
