According to a Palm Springs police probable cause affidavit, Serrano and Alcantar Garcia were at El Torito nightclub when Serrano attacked him with a box cutter.

When police arrived, Serrano was already in handcuffs and detained by security.

Serrano told an officer that he cut Garcia because the victim assaulted him and a friend with a shovel three years earlier.

"I decided to get him back," Serrano said, according to the report.

Serrano told police that Garcia moved back to Mexico after the attack three years ago. Serrano gave inconsistent statements to police, first saying that Garcia tried to punch him when they saw each other at the club and later saying that Garcia tried to hit him with two beer bottles.

"He tried to hit me," Serrano told police, according to the report. "It was self-defense and that's what I am going to say at court."

Police took the box cutter into evidence.

Serrano was released from jail Monday after posting a $5,000 bond.
