Man arrested in connection with fatal Fort Lauderdale shooting

Victim shot multiple times, police say

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting that was reported early Thursday in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

The shooting was reported about 2:45 a.m. at 435 N. Andrews Ave.

Police said the victim, Richard Pierce, 57, of Fort Lauderdale, was approached by a gunman, who shot Pierce several times.

Police said the gunman ran away after the shooting.

Pierce was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died. 

A patrol officer spotted a man a short time later who matched the description of the gunman, which was provided by a witness at the scene.

Police said Stevens Jean, 29, of Fort Lauderdale, was arrested on a first-degree murder charge.

A motive for the shooting is unknown.
