Knife-wielding thief targets 2 convenience stores in Pompano Beach

Both robberies reported in July

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for a knife-wielding thief who targeted two convenience stores last month in Pompano Beach.

The first robbery was reported July 28 at a Liberty gas station at 3000 W. Copans Road.

Deputies said the robber tried to purchase a pack of cigarettes, but his card was declined.

Authorities said he took the cigarettes and walked out of the store.

An employee followed the thief and exchanged words with him before the robber pulled out a large knife as he got into his car, deputies said.

The second robbery was reported July 30 at a Speedway gas station convenience store at 2350 N. Powerline Road.

Deputies said the thief grabbed three 12-packs of beer, pulled out a large knife and walked out of the store to his car.

Authorities said the man dropped one of the packs of beer as he fled the scene in a white, newer-model Ford Edge SUV.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call Detective Victor Carrasquillo at 954-321-4208 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
