MIAMI – A City of Miami police officer was running after a man when he said a dog charged at him near the railroad tracks in Miami's Overtown neighborhood Thursday. The attack was quick and unexpected.
It wasn't a good day for the injured police officer. The man he was chasing after had already punched him and this ferocious attacker was a stray dog capable of carrying rabies.
The police officer was near Northwest 12th Street and First Avenue when the dog bit him in the leg. The suspect didn't get away. Another police officer was able to arrest him.
Miami Fire Rescue took the injured officer to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was treated for two superficial wounds and underwent routine tests.
Authorities ask residents to report stray dogs to Miami-Dade Animal Services by calling 311 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
