MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The Consulate General of Israel canceled a Thursday night event at the Jewish Museum of Florida on Thursday night after receiving threats.
The event at 301 Washington Ave., in Miami Beach was meant to commemorate the 100 years of the pivotal Balfour Declaration, a 1917 statement by the British supporting the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine.

There were tributes in Jerusalem, London and New York City, and there were demonstrations against it in every major West Bank city, including Ramallah, where the New York Times reported Fatah youth shouted "Balfour falls" and "We will not give up our right to exist."
Ariel Roman-Harris, the spokesman for the Israeli consulate general office in Miami, said there were threats of violence that prompted the decision to cancel the event in Miami Beach.
The event was organized in partnership with the Consulate General of the United Kingdom, Florida International University and the American Jewish Committee. Authorities evacuated a garage at FIU to investigate a suspicious package Thursday afternoon.
The Consul General of Israel was not canceling their event at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach to celebrate the kickoff of the El-Al Airlines flights to Israel Thursday evening.
